well... if you ask me i would split this project into 3 parts (web interface, heatbeats monitoring and servers management)

ideas that I have for each part are:

  • Web Interface
    • move settings into database
    • make each service monitoring is configurable for each server
    • interface tweaking
    • ajaxify the interface for almost real-time monitoring with configurable intervals
  • Heartbeats Monitoring
    • Windows Service that is checking for services at the server
    • you can configure you want to monitor what at each server
    • translate that into graphs at the interface
    • in case any service reachs the threshold an alert is sent
  • Servers management
    • start/shutdown/restart services (immediate or scheduled)
    • remotely run commands at servers (for starting an application or so...)

Why not working in the cloud?

Let the system(service) send data to the cloud. Where it is stored in a database.

we started the project by storing data at text file then XML document now we have moved to a database.

storing data at the cloud is a good idea but it's not a priority. for sure that cloud is the future but this is not the best time to implement it.

I want 1st to know the following :

  • What set of controls we can use for the UX i.e javascript framework?
  • What DB provider you expect to use?
  • Have you planned for exitensible modules?

I expect that we can find a way to discuss the project when we're available easily using a chat!
